Meaningful Musical Artifact

The song, “My Favorite Things,” from Roger and Hammerstein’s musical, The Sound of Music, reminds me of my childhood. I grew up in a household full of musical influence. My mother, an elementary school music teacher, was always singing nursery rhymes, hymns, musicals, etc., to my sister and me. The song that sticks in my mind the most, however, is “My Favorite Things.” The Sound of Music has always been my favorite movie. It is so inspirational and uplifting. When I was younger, I used to watch the musical and make my mom watch me as I acted the whole thing out, pretending to be Maria, or Liesel. My favorite scene was always the one where Liesel comes through the window, soaking wet, and all the children run into Maria’s bedroom, terrified from the thunder. Maria then teaches them the song, “My Favorite Things,” to take their mind off of the storm. I remember dancing around the family room to this song. In, addition, I recently traveled to Salzburg, where a good deal of The Sound of Music was filmed, and the atmosphere brought the history of the movie to life for me. Salzburg is my favorite place in the world. It is just so beautiful and historical. “My Favorite Things” also reminds me of my wonderful trip that amazing city. I treasure the song, “My Favorite Things,” and it will always be meaningful to me.
